Reformation - Europe's House Divided (Diarmaid MacCulloch)
The strands of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation between 1490 and 1700 masterfully woven together and revealing how the modern age was shaped.
* This is a long and weighty book - but if you're not afraid of 'wrestling' with history, then it's well worth persevering with. It can get a little ponderous in places, but is well worth the struggle, since it paints a vivid and fascinating picture of the Protestant Reformation in its widest sense, and how it has affected, not just the British church, but the whole course of world history - for those of all faiths and none. |
