The negotiator (Dee Henderson) 2001
Book One in the O'Malley series.. we find Dave Richman who has spent his life protecting people; failure is not in his vocabulary. He'll figure out a way to protect Kate even if she is determined to make it difficult.
* As a fan of US thrillers like '24', I decided to take a chance on this book, based on the synopsis on the back. This is the first in a series of novels, each focussing on a different member of the O'Malley family. As a Christian novel, we would expect faith to feature strongly and, indeed, we join the lead character, Kate O'Malley, on a journey to discovery Jesus. And although this can feel a little contrived in places, it does not overpower the story. There were enough explosions and tension to live up to the expectations of the genre, fans of romantic fiction will also find something to appeal and the 'soapy' feel of the link between characters in each book looks promising. Don't expect anything too intellectually challenging, but for a good entertaining and undemanding read, definitely give it a go.
