A welcome from our minister

Hello and welcome…

My name is Val Reid, and I’m the minister at Christchurch Hitchin. I began my ministry here on September 1st 2019. I’m a Methodist minister, and it’s been a great learning opportunity to be part of a Methodist/URC ecumenical church. Christchurch is an open, welcoming and friendly church. On other pages of this website, you can read about our worship on Sunday mornings, our ‘Refresh’ open house on Tuesday and Friday mornings, our small fellowship groups, and our meditation group on Tuesday lunchtimes. Please do come and join us – you will be made very welcome! There is a lot going on – but there is always room for more. We encourage people who spot a gap to have a go at starting something new.

In Spring 2023 we committed ourselves to exploring what it means to be an inclusive church – and you can read more about this on our Everyone welcome page

This is a church that welcomes people who want to get married, people who want to bring a child for baptism, or people who want to arrange a funeral for a loved one with a Christchurch connection. If you’d like to discuss any of these things, or to talk with me about anything personal, the easiest way is to send me an email. My address is minister@christchurchhitchin.org.uk

I will be ‘sitting down’ (Methodist jargon for retiring) in the summer of 2024, after five years here at Christchurch. Our new minister, Jacob Donkoh, will begin work on September 1 st 2024, subject to the decision of Conference. During July and August our pastoral team, led by Christine Warren, will be available for pastoral support. Our church secretary Angela Griggs, and our senior steward Paul Arnold, will be available to discuss any urgent church matters. Please email minister@christchurchhitchin.org.uk and your message will be forwarded to the appropriate person. You can also contact Jacob on this address from 1 st September.
