Volunteering
Drop in here to find ways to volunteer with the Christchurch community. You’ll find brief details, along with a contact email to find out more…
Family church volunteer
Try something new! We are always on the lookout for volunteers to join our team running our family church. We only ask for a time commitment of 30-40 minutes on a Sunday morning every couple of months. We are also looking for volunteers for our Friday night youth club which runs from 7.30-9pm. (Those volunteering regularly will need to undertake a DBS check).

Sunday Morning Refreshments Rota
After the 10.30am Sunday services a small team of volunteers prepare, serve and clear away up to 100 cups of tea and coffee and provide water and squash for the children. We desperately need some more volunteers to join us on the coffee rota volunteer team. If you would like to know more or could offer to assist on this greatly appreciated rota then we would be delighted to hear from you. Volunteers are always asked for their date availability before any rota is compiled and most people on the rota help once every 8 weeks. We even have a dishwasher so there is no lengthy periods of washing up!
Please speak to Stephanie Searle, either at Church on Sunday mornings or via email (her details are on ChurchSuite) if you would like to learn more. Alternatively speak to one of the current volunteers who serve from behind the kitchen hatch on Sunday mornings.
Elmside Sunday wheelchair pushers
There is a close relationship between Christchurch and the residents and staff at Elmside Care Home. On Sunday mornings Steve and Don provide a small service and push to the Church anyone who is wheelchair bound, so they can join in morning worship. After the service, our guests have the opportunity of joining us for refreshments before we return them to Elmside in time for their Sunday lunch!
We are not carers. Elmside provide a member of staff, ‘just in case’.
Our guests are always made to feel welcome and they really appreciate the help we provide.
A couple of our Sunday Stewards often offer their help, but if anyone is interested in knowing a little more, please feel free to contact either myself or Don. We’d be happy to oblige. Steve Sharpe’s contact details are in ChurchSuite.
Tech Team
Why not give it a go and join our Worship Technical Team? We’re looking for people to help with live streaming, or projecting song words and service content, or running the sound desk during our services. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to learn—and training and support will be provided.
The team works on a flexible rota, with most people serving around twice every three months, so it’s easy to fit around other commitments. If you’d like to try something new or find out more, please contact Tony Edmonds
Refresh@Christchurch
Each week on Tuesday & Fridays from 10am-1pm, Christchurch’s doors are open to welcome anyone who wishes to drop in for a cuppa, a friendly chat, a listening ear, a quiet space or to meet and make new friends.
We need 3 volunteers for each session to greet visitors and serve refreshments, one of whom is always a “seasoned” church member. Not all volunteers are from our church community, but all show through their loyalty and willingness, their sense of fulfilment.
More volunteers are needed, particularly on Friday mornings. Most offer 1 or 2 slots a month.
If you would like to find out more, please speak to Anne Blackman (01462 451573) or any of our volunteers, or, better still, drop in for a cuppa and a chat – why not bring a friend? A warm welcome is assured!
Everyone welcome
The Everyone Welcome group looks at all aspects of Christchurch life, including ourselves and our building, to highlight changes that we can make so ‘Everyone is welcome, because here, everyone matters’.
Speak to Sara Crowley (details in Churchsuite) if you would like to help or have any suggestions.
Trustees Oversight Group
If you think you would enjoy being part of a small team making significant decisions about the life of your church…. have you ever thought about becoming a Christchurch Trustee?
We meet together about 9 times a year in addition to Church meetings.
Trustees have oversight of the Church, in accordance with the requirements of the Charity Commission.
We support the Ministry team and the Area Leads.
It is a critical role for the Church to function well; and it’s very rewarding to be part of this process.
You do not need any special qualifications, other than a heart for Christchurch.
If you are a member of Christchurch and want to know more, see me, or any of the Trustees at church, or email the Church Secretary: secretary@christchurchhitchin.org.uk
